Demographics
The Murrumbidgee General Practice Network (MGPN) is located in the western Riverina area of NSW and covers an area of approximately 51,000 square kilometres including the towns of Coleambally, Darlington Point, Griffith, Hay, Hillston, Leeton, Narrandera, Finley, Jerilderie, Berrigan and Tocumwal.
MGPN services a population of approximately 62,000 residents, with a GP and GP Registrar membership of 54.
Often referred to as the 'food bowl of Australia', agriculture is the primary industry within the region with access to both irrigated and dry land farming. The Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area has sustained growth over the past decade and has developed a growth strategy for the next 30 years. The pressure for value-added industries as well as the production of agricultural and horticultural products has led to immigration to the area where there is estimated to be approximately 89 different ethnic groups.
