The MGPN Practice Nurse Support Program is a core activity funded by DoHA, with additional funding sought from other sources for specific initiatives. In 2004 there were seven Practices Nurses practising across the region. With the introduction of Practice Nurse Incentives for General Practice, this has increased to 38.
MGPN offers support for Practices contemplating the introduction of Practice Nurse service. In addition, we offer ongoing support and advice for new and existing Practice Nurses including:
- Maintenance of a Practice Nurse network;
- Mentorship for new Practice Nurses;
- Training and mentorship for procedural Practice Nurse activities;
- Delivery of targetted Continuing Professional Development with College of Nursing points attached;
- Supervision for Diploma of Practice Nurse students studying through Sunshine Coast University;
- Practice visits to advise on systems to improve population health outcomes for the practice population;
